Haunted houses are already terrifying enough, so adding in a history as dark as that of The Parker House takes the scare-factor to the next level. Keep reading to see if you have what it takes to make it out alive…if not, you just may meet a fate similar to all those who were laid to rest long ago in this very building.
This dilapidated old house was a thriving family-owned mortuary until Mr. and Mrs. Parker met an untimely demise sometime around the 1940s. Rumor has it their daughter, Mary, might have kept business booming by using the funeral home as a front for organ harvesting.
No matter the specifics, it was shut down about 20 years later following a lengthy investigation. Shortly thereafter, the building was bought out and converted into a haunted house filled with vengeful spirits, sadistic killers, and even the criminally insane. So now that you know the backstory, who's ready to go inside?
You'll walk through three separate attractions, each more terrifying than the its predecessor: the mortuary itself, a plantation, and a sanitarium. Crudely operated-on bodies are on display, cannibals emerge from the forest to hunt you down, and feel the agony of the patients who were tormented within the asylum walls.
As in any good haunted house, the exit is barred by a chainsaw-wielding maniac. Make a break for it and escape into freedom...or else you just might get "recycled" for parts like the poor souls who were laid to rest here long ago.
There's a reason why so many horror movies use children. Nothing has a scare factor quite like a meek, innocent voice threatening to rip your flesh apart and gnaw on the bones. You'll encounter several little demons in the house, and underestimating their power could be a grave mistake.
Provided you make it out alive, documenting the experience is a must. These kids may be all smiles, but that's just the adrenaline from enduring the most terrifying night of their lives.
You'll find The Parker House at 8550 W University Dr, Denton, TX 76207. Tickets are $25 (or $40 for a fast pass), and can only be purchased on site. Happy haunting!
