“Colorful” probably isn’t the first word that comes to mind when you think of a military base, but Fort Sam Houston is far from average. This historic place is home to free-roaming peacocks and other wildlife, and you can feed them directly out of the palm of your hand.

The original fort at Sam Houston, the Quadrangle (colloquially known as "The Quad") was built in 1876.
