Calling all BBQ and wine lovers! One of the best wine tours in Texas takes you to not one, but two award-winning wineries in the beautiful Hill Country – and that isn’t all. The excursion, hosted by Austin Detours and bookable on TripAdvisor, also makes a stop at one of the Lone Star State’s most iconic BBQ joints, so you can fill up on mouthwatering smoked meats, then sample some of Texas’ finest wines.
If you love wine and barbecue, this half-day tour offered by Austin Detours was made just for you.
This air-conditioned bus tour takes you to two award-winning vineyards in the Texas Hill Country and makes a pit stop at the iconic Salt Lick restaurant for some mouthwatering BBQ.
Lunch is first up on the tour, and you'd better come hungry. One of the most famous BBQ joints in Texas, The Salt Lick is known for its massive pit full of slow-smoked meats that serves as the centerpiece of the restaurant.
On the menu, you'll see all the usual suspects: brisket, sausage, ribs, etc. Everything is so good, it doesn't even need sauce! That being said, their sauce is truly next-level, so feel free to slather some on your food anyway.
Next up is the beautiful Fall Creek Vineyards. The scenery here is almost as good as the wine (which is saying something considering how many accolades their labels have received).
Fall Creek Vineyards in Driftwood, 18059 Farm to Market Rd 1826, Driftwood, TX 78619, USA
Dutchman Family Winery is the next - and final - stop on the tour. Browse the world-class wine selection, sample a few that catch your eye, and perhaps even bring home a bottle or two! The views here are also breathtaking, so take a few moments to really soak it all up.
Duchman Family Winery, 13308 Ranch to Market Rd 150, Driftwood, TX 78619, USA
At both vineyards, mingle with your friends/family and the rest of your tour group as you taste some of the finest wines in all of Texas. We can guarantee you've never had a wine tasting experience quite like this before.
You'll feel like you're a million miles away from Austin as you explore the grounds of the vineyards. Vast, rolling hills are covered in lush greenery, making for a truly jaw-dropping sight.
One of the neatest parts of the tour is getting up close and personal with the winemaking process. The staff members are always eager to showcase their craft to visitors!
Please note: the price of the tour does not include the BBQ or wine tastings. It’s recommended to allot roughly $35 for lunch and $20 for wine tastings (per person). Tours depart from the Austin Visitor Center. Visit the attraction’s TripAdvisor page for more information and/or to book a tour.
