Outside of work, you can likely find her curled up on with a hot cup of coffee, practicing yoga, baking, or exploring the beautiful Lone Star State (in particular, the vast and mystical West Texas desert).
There’s no shortage of fun to be had in Space City, but one activity in particular is criminally overlooked: a ferry tour of the Port of Houston. Showing you one of the most diverse ports in the world with an incredibly rich history, this interesting and informative boat ride will leave you with an entirely new appreciation for the waterway and the maritime industry as a whole. Take a look:
Paying homage to the historic battles fought on these waters, the M/V Sam Houston is named after the iconic military commander who orchestrated the fight for our state's independence from Mexico.
The tour has been offered for a whopping 60 years, beginning with its inaugural voyage on July 30, 1958. It's completely free and open to individuals and groups, so the whole family can enjoy this serene escape in one of the nation's largest cities.
You'll spend 90 minutes learning about the port's current operations and history as well as the maritime industry as a whole. Pass by international cargo vessels as well as the Turning Basin Terminal, and get a feel for what life on the water is really like.
The vessel is 95 feet long and holds up to 100 passengers between the outdoor deck and air-conditioned, indoor lounge seating. Experience a little bit of both to stay cool in the oppressive summer heat while still getting to appreciate the scenic views.
Reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance here. This is one of the most diverse ports in the entire world, and getting to immerse yourself in it truly is an unforgettable opportunity.
