Texas has a whopping 89 state parks, so it only makes sense that some of them would fly under the radar. One of the best state parks in Texas, Resaca de la Palma, is also one of the most underrated, tucked away in the Rio Grande Valley. The views are second to none, and the biodiversity is just incredible.
Nestled way down in the Rio Grande Valley, the little-known Resaca de la Palma State Park is a sanctuary for nature lovers.
One of three state parks belonging to the World Birding Center, this 1,200-acre semi-tropical oasis offers unparalleled hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities.
Eight miles of trails meander through the park, and you can enjoy them on foot, a bike, or even a scenic tram ride.
If you're in the mood for something short and sweet, the quarter-mile Ebony Trail takes only 10 minutes to complete. Beginning just behind the Visitor Center, the trail cuts through old growth woodlands and features a boardwalk and observation deck.
If you listen closely, you can hear the tall grass rustling with the movement of wildlife. Rent some binoculars from the park center for a closer look!
Butterflies and moths abound, as well as a variety of colorful migrating birds.
Have you ever been to Resaca de la Palma State Park? If so, we’d love to hear all about your experience. Don’t forget to check out our previous article for a nearby butterfly sanctuary filled with thousands of tiny winged creatures!
