It’s no surprise that the Dallas – Fort Worth area boasts of some mighty tall attractions. It is Texas, after all! In keeping with “bigger is better,” these spots offer birds-eye views of impressive cityscapes, spectacular sunsets, and architectural wonders. Here are eight worthy of an upward look!
The tallest building in the city is the Bank of America Plaza, which rises 921 feet. It is the third-tallest building in Texas and the 28th-tallest building in the U.S. The building is distinctive at night with its green-light outline.
The express elevator can zip its occupants to the top floors in about 40 seconds. While there was once a public observation tower, security restrictions now mean you need to work there, have an invitation to meet with someone who does, or dine on its 69th floor in order to get incredible views like this.
This iconic ball, at 561 feet, lights up the sky every night with a light show denoting local, state and national events. There is a public observatory here (for a fee) or you can choose to either have drinks at its bar area or dine at Wolfgang Puck's renowned restaurant, Five-Sixty.
If you're scared of heights, you might nix this thrill ride. Riders are taken 400 feet up and careen around the center base at 35 miles an hour in a 124-foot wide circle. From here, riders can see both Dallas and Fort Worth!
This massive five-level freeway interchange is called "High Five" for its five flyover ramps. Its highest point is as high as a 12-story building. People actually get scared driving on parts of it.
5. Top o' Texas Tower Ride — during State Fair of Texas, Dallas.
It can accommodate 13 riders per hour and makes the Texas Star Ferris wheel look like a toy. The Dallas skyline can be viewed from this perspective as well.
Fort Worth's tallest building is Burnett Plaza, at 567 feet. The 50-foot "Man With a Briefcase" is featured on the north side. As with Dallas office buildings, it isn't open to the public to enter at will, but its offices and rooms provide a fabulous view.
This rooftop restaurant and bar is not only incredible but with Fort Worth as the backdrop, provides stunning views. It operates out of the former Caravan of Dreams theatre. Seating also provides direct access to happenings on Main Street. While certainly not the tallest point in the Metroplex, it is absolutely one of the coolest.
This 13-mile loop trail southwest of Dallas is located atop a beautiful escarpment area and is the highest elevation in the City of Dallas. It may not be 70-stories high, but it's impressive all the same!
