Next time you find yourself in the Texas Hill Country, don’t leave without stopping by Richter’s Antler Cafe in Spring Branch. This rustic eatery is home to some of the very best chicken-fried steak in Texas – their rendition is so popular, it almost has a cult following, and all it takes is one bite to understand why.
Deep in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, in the tiny town of Spring Branch, lies a restaurant that serves - as its motto simply states - "Good Texas Food."
Upon stepping inside, you'll see what gives the restaurant its name. Not only are there deer skulls and taxidermized heads everywhere you look, but also several hundred pairs of antlers hanging from the ceiling!
When it comes to the food, regulars will tell you that the chicken-fried steak is a must-try. A crisp outside gives way to a tender white meat center, and the river of cream gravy on top is icing on the cake. You may not even need to pick up your knife - these bad boys cut like butter!
Your meal comes with two sides, which feature all the usual Southern suspects like mashed potatoes, creamed corn, fried okra, and mac and cheese, plus Texas toast.
Have you ever been to Richter’s Antler Cafe? If so, did you try the chicken-fried steak? Tell us your thoughts in the comments! Don’t forget to check out our previous article for a nearby town that’s been voted among the happiest small towns in America.
