In 1881, the city's first well was discovered on the property of a man named James Lynch. He was hesitant to drink the water because of its 'funny taste,' which was later discovered to be highly concentrated minerals.

Before long, the family's health improved drastically and people began traveling from all over to experience the miracle firsthand.
By 1900, Mineral Wells was a luxury resort town boasting several spas that attracted up to 150,000 visitors annually, including celebrities like Clark Gable and Judy Garland.
