While cheese isn’t one of the major food groups in Texas (like chicken-fried steak and barbecue), we still love it. The owners of Antonelli’s in Austin have devoted their entire lives to it, and their success is evident in the 100+ different types offered in the shop. A visit here is overwhelming to say the least, but in the best way possible. See for yourself:
Located in the historic Hyde Park district, Antonelli's has been providing only the finest artisanal cheese to Austinites since 2010. A second store with a full restaurant has been opened on Congress Ave.
Upon entering the shop, you'll immediately be hit with the pungent, nutty aroma that could only belong to gourmet cheese. Over 100 different vendors sell their product here, so the options are virtually endless.
Do you like sharp cheddar with a powerful bite to it? How about some rich, creamy brie? Or maybe you want to step outside your comfort zone and try something you've never even heard of before. With all these delicious cheeses and more calling out to you through the display case, you simply can't go wrong.
The shop even went so far as to hang informative charts and graphics on the wall to ensure you get the most out of your experience. Learn all about how cheese is made, which kinds come from which animals, and what states it's produced in.
Cheese just wouldn't be the same without a glass of wine, and Antonelli's has all the perfect pairings. Bring a bottle or two home and be amazed at how your party guests will gawk at your exquisite taste.
Your visit isn't complete without charcuterie. Choose one of the signature boards or build your own with a variety of unique and delicious cheeses, meats, and sides. They also offer to-go boards if you want to add a fancy touch to your next event.
Homemade mac and cheese is the best mac and cheese, and it's even better when gourmet cheeses are involved. The second location has mac, flatbreads, sandwiches, soups, and salads - all made with the shop's most gourmet selections.
The original Antonelli’s is located at 4220 Duval St, Austin, TX 78751, and the Fareground shop (with the restaurant) is at 111 Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78701.
Have you ever been to this awesome cheese shop? Are there any other cheese stores in Texas that belong on everyone’s bucket list?
