How does having an entire beach to yourself sound?
With warmer temperatures on the horizon, it’s time to start planning beach days. That being said, it’s hard to find a time when tourists aren’t lining every inch of the Gulf Coast – until now, that is. Most people aren’t aware of just how many small, lightly-trafficked seaside towns exist here in Texas. Today, we’re highlighting one city that might be the most charming of them all.
Bay City is a quiet coastal town of just under 18,000 residents. The same businesses have been renting these Main Street storefronts for decades, and you’ll rarely see an unfamiliar face at the grocery store.
The tourism industry seems to have skipped over this gulfside community. Rarely will you encounter large crowds at the beach, allowing for uninterrupted sunrise walks as the tide gently rolls in.
Make sure to bring towels and plenty of sunscreen; losing track of time is pretty much inevitable. Sink your toes in the sand and enjoy the tranquility of this little-known ocean hideaway.
Set sail on the open water and let the waves send you drifting out to sea. Unlike other nearby locales, there’s plenty of room here to show off the prowess of your watercraft without worrying about bumping into someone else.
Kayak rentals are also available if you don’t own a boat. Nothing quite compares to the serenity of gently paddling while the current carries you along. Check out Matagorda Adventure Company’s website for more information.
Fishing is one of the best family pastimes, and you’re almost guaranteed to get a bite here. Bring your own gear or pick some up at one of many local bait shops before casting a line off the boardwalk.
All that fun in the sun sure works up an appetite, and luckily, the restaurant options are plentiful. End your day with fresh seafood, great drinks, and an unbeatable view.
