As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
There are plenty of bed and breakfasts in the Texas Hill Country, but none quite compare to Migel House in Waco. Not only does it have its own private bowling alley in the basement, but it was also the first bowling alley in the city! Keep scrolling to see the beautiful, historic house for yourself.
The house was built in 1910 by Milton M. Scott, one of the most famous Central Texas architects of the time. He is also responsible for the Roosevelt Hotel and Dr. Pepper Museum.
Today, it's considered one of the best, most lavish bed and breakfasts in the Hill Country. There's no feeling quite like waking up and brewing a steaming cup of joe in this charming kitchen. Continental breakfast is served on weekdays and hot breakfast on Saturday and Sunday.
All of the furniture is period, so you get a feel for what it would've been like to live in a turn-of-the-century home - only with all the modern amenities you're used to. It's the best of both worlds. This is the Men's Parlor, and there's also a Ladies' Parlor and upstairs living room for your lounging pleasure.
Here's the upstairs living area. I like to imagine people sitting up here 100 years ago, reading the newspaper while the morning sun beams in through the windows. How relaxing that must've been...
As far as the bedrooms themselves, there are three separate suites to choose from. This is the Eugenia Suite: it has a king-sized bed, the original shower that the house came with, two balconies, a big screen TV, and a perfect view of another gorgeous historical home across the street.
The Louey Suite is the master. It has a king-sized bed, walk-in shower, heated floors, double sinks, and a lovely antique bathtub. There's also a spacious walk-in closet, office area, and a breathtaking view of the landscape.
And finally, we have the Ivy Suite, the smallest of the three. It has a queen-sized bed, walk-in shower, plenty of sitting area, and a view of the neighborhood that can't be beat.
An office is also available in the home, so no need to fret if you have some work to catch up on - or maybe you just want to escape for a bit and dive into a good book. Whatever the case may be, you'll have the freedom to do so.
Last, but certainly not least, we have the basement. (Yep, you read that correctly. Not too many of these in Texas!) Here, you'll find the bowling alley. Believe it or not, it was actually the very first bowling alley in Waco - and it's all yours when you're a guest here.
