Outside of work, you can likely find her curled up on with a hot cup of coffee, practicing yoga, baking, or exploring the beautiful Lone Star State (in particular, the vast and mystical West Texas desert).
Southeast Texas is most well known for its large number of refineries, so the fact that the area is actually full of beautiful nature might come as a shock to some. Cattail Marsh is a sprawling, 900-acre park with wildlife, trails, and a boardwalk that provides some of the best views around. Take a look:
First constructed in 1993 as the last step of the city's wastewater treatment plan, the marsh has earned the praise of not only environmentalists and activists but also citizens who appreciate the opportunity to enjoy nature.
The boardwalk was built just two years ago, mainly to provide better views of one of the most active birding areas of Southeast Texas - not to mention the mesmerizing sunsets our state is known for as well.
If you're an avid bird watcher, this is definitely the place for you. Over 250 species reside here, including pelicans, egrets, roseate spoonbills, ducks, ibis, doves, and red-winged blackbirds.
There are so many options for recreation on the eight miles of trails winding through the park. Whether you like hiking, biking, horseback riding, jogging, or wildlife photography, everyone can experience the peace that comes along with the solitude of nature.
Beware - although most of the animals you'll come across are friendly, these guys certainly aren't. Keep your eyes peeled and don't get too close to the water!
Spanning over 900 acres, Cattail Marsh is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. This area isn't exactly known for its breathtaking scenery, but this hidden gem would make anyone think otherwise.
