It might feel like 2020 has been going on for ages, but summer hasn’t even officially arrived yet! It’s arguably the best season in Texas, and Big Rivers Waterpark in the Houston area is adding to the fun with new attractions and a tentative reopening date. We can’t wait to splash the day away!
Part of the 632-acre Grand Texas theme park, Big Rivers opened last year after delays due to inclement weather and several other issues. If the state allows, the park will officially reopen for the summer on Memorial Day.
Included among the water attractions are the largest lazy river in Houston, a wave pool, exhilarating slides, and play structure with over 300 interactive elements. Pictured here is "Wild Isle," an inflatable, floating obstacle course with unique, innovative challenges for all ages.
Once you get out of the water, take to the sky! A five-story climbing wall, thrilling zip line, ropes course with 50+ different attractions, and a 70-foot free fall tower are guaranteed to help landlubbers find their wings.
If neither air or sea are your element, there are a variety of attractions on ground-level. A petting zoo, giant maze, cane fishing, and gator pond offer endless fun for the whole family.
To lessen coronavirus concerns, the park has added over 6,000 square feet of "shade space" so visitors can spread out while dining or simply taking a break between rides. Additional public health measures include sanitation stations, hot water indoor showers, and more distance between lounge chairs.
You can purchase a season pass for $90, which includes all-day, everyday access to the waterpark and aerial activities, as well as discounts on food and non-alcoholic beverages, merchandise, cabana rentals and parking. Already have a pass? Its expiration date will be extended by four days to make up for lost time.
Visit the park’s website or Facebook page to learn more. Click here to learn how you can nominate a medical professional or law enforcement official to receive a free one-day ticket (you’ll get one too if your person is selected!).
