Many businesses met a bitter end during the Great Depression. For this San Antonio restaurant, it was just the very beginning. Known all across Texas for its mouthwatering fried chicken, French pastries, and homemade pies, Earl Abel’s proves how passion and perseverance can withstand even the greatest hardships. Take a bite:
Earl Abel's debuted during the Great Depression and hasn't closed its doors since. This impressive feat is a testament to just how great the food is.
Fried chicken is the single menu item responsible for the restaurant's success. With a perfectly crisp outside giving way to tender, juicy white meat, you can even order it for breakfast!
More traditional meals are served at lunch and dinnertime. Two or three pieces of chicken come with either mashed potatoes or fries and one side. We can't imagine a better looking Southern spread!
One of the most iconic Texas dishes also has a rightful place in the kitchen. Order it solo or as a sandwich accompanied by fries or homemade potato chips.
If your taste buds are feeling frisky this Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich is here to save the day. Crispy slaw, crunchy chicken, and tangy sauce mingle between two fluffy buns for an out-of-this-world (or at least this country) flavor explosion.
There's even a little something for those who prefer their chicken in drink form. This loaded Bloody Mary is topped with all the usual suspects plus a drumstick for good measure.
Would it really be a Southern restaurant without pie? Nearly a dozen varieties including Maple Pecan (pictured below), Lemon Meringue, and Chocolate Ice Box.
