Home-cooked meals are an integral part of Texas culture, and they’re most often found at mom & pop, hole-in-the-wall restaurants unbeknownst to many. Mike’s BBQ, Catfish, & Steaks in Dayton is one such place, with an all-you-can-eat buffet featuring dozens of Southern comforts.

Dayton, a town of less than 10,000 situated about halfway between Beaumont and Houston, doesn't see much in the way of tourism. That means restaurants such as Mike's BBQ, Catfish, & Steaks go unnoticed to the general public -- even if they deserve widespread recognition.
This little hole-in-the-wall offers both a regular menu and all-you-can-eat buffet. Either way, guests get to chow down on generous portions of classic Southern comfort foods in a cozy, mom & pop setting.
Moving down the buffet line, the nostalgia is almost as hearty as the food itself. Perfectly-seasoned smoked chicken leg quarters, beefy noodles, and other delicacies are a trip back to childhood family dinners for your taste buds.
Hamburger steaks and sausage with peppers and onions were designed to be served over rice or mashed potatoes. These stick-to-your-ribs meals showcase Texas home cooking at its very finest.
We'd be remiss not to mention the plethora of scrumptious sides. New potatoes, turnip greens, and two types of gravy are just a few of the delectable options.
If buffets aren't your style, the regular menu doesn't disappoint, either. Loaded BBQ plates, burgers, and juicy steak are all solid choices guaranteed to leave you happily stuffed.
No matter how full you are, there's always room for dessert -- especially when it's a thick slice of pie made from scratch every morning. From egg custard to good ol' fashioned chocolate and everything in-between, the variety is endless.
