If you love wine, you need to make the 50-minute drive west to the town of Nye, where you’ll find a 100-year-old farm that’s been renovated into the most beautiful vineyard you’ve ever seen.
Bill Blackmon and Chris Brundrett opened William Chris Vineyards in 2008 with just six barrels of wine in one variety - Enchanté. Today, the company produces thousands of cases of wine in several varieties.
A 100-year-old farm and farmhouse is the location for the tasting room, winery and production facility. It's located about 50 miles west of Austin at 10352 W Highway 290, Hye.
The tasting room is open seven days a week.
Visit Monday through Wednesday from 10 AM to 5 PM; Thursday through Saturday 10 AM to 6 PM; Sunday Noon to 5 PM.
Reservations are recommended Monday through Thursday; they're required Friday through Sunday. Call (830) 998-7654 to reserve your tasting.
Built in 1905, the farmhouse is a cozy, welcoming space.
There's plenty of seating so that you can enjoy a glass of wine and a snack.
The grounds here are beautiful.
William Chris grows about half of the grapes they use in their wines; the source the other half from local vineyards.
When the weather is nice, you'll enjoy a cheese plate and wine on the back deck.
The rural atmosphere is hard to beat, and the views are lovely.
Get in on the fun during the grape punch!
It's like a grape stomp, where grapes are crushed into pulp by stomping on them...but you use your hands instead. The red wine varieties are punched down every day, which allows the grapes to be macerated gently during fermentation.
William Chris Vineyards makes wine only from Texas-grown grapes.
Once the wine is barreled, it sits undisturbed in the cellar for one to three years.
A visit to William and Chris Vineyard is a step back in time to a historic farm surrounded by natural, rural beauty. Visit the vineyard's
website for more information.
