Even though it’s the capital, Austin rarely feels like Texas. The massive skyscrapers and hectic hustle might make you long for the visions seen in classic Western movies. If you’re searching for rolling hillsides and epic ranches, you can still find them near Bat City. These nine Austin activities will really make you feel like a Texan.
1. Find the perfect pair of boots at Allen's
This gigantic store has more than 4,000 pairs of boots, so you're certain to find something that piques your interest. They also have amazing cowboy hats and belt buckles. You'll feel like shouting "Yeehaw!" when you walk into Allen's at 1522 S Congress Ave.

2. Take a day trip out to LBJ's ranch.
The "Texas Whitehouse" is a must-see. Knowledgeable guides will lead you around the former president's estate and tell tales of all of the LBJs (because even his dog was named Little Beagle Johnson). The tranquil grounds will make you feel like you're a million miles away from it all, but you're only about an hour outside of town. LBJ's ranch is located at 199 Park Rd. 52 in Stonewall, Texas.
3. Climb Enchanted Rock
Native Americans believed this gorgeous pink granite dome had a touch of magic to it, and it's easy to see why. The glistening rock often makes a whistling sound, and it's fueled Texans' imaginations for centuries. This view is exactly what you'd think of when you imagine Texas' expansive rolling hills. Drive down to Fredericksburg and experience the wonder yourself.
