This isn't a view you typically come across along Austin's greenbelts. If you go toward Oltorf and St. Edward's University, you'll see some otherworldly beauty. Remnants of Austin's ancient history are scattered around the trails, and you'll want to examine it closely.
Underwater volcanoes once erupted under the ocean, slowly growing the mound until it nearly reached the surface. The shallow water attracted mollusks and other marine life. As time passed, these small creatures deposited their limey shells on top of the volcano. This created limestone, a type of rock found all throughout this stunning patch of nature.
