More than one and a half million of these little guys live under The South Congress Bridge in the summertime, and Austinites are absolutely in love. Not only do the bats munch on the city’s pesky bugs, they also put on a magnificent spectacle for us every evening at sunset. That’s enough of a reason to throw them a party, so the city of Austin hosts Bat Fest every August. Full of scrumptious fair food, flashy costumes, and thrilling music, this annual shindig is truly exciting. There’s no other festival in the world like this one here in Austin, and it’s about time you saw what the fuss is all about.

Around mid-August, the female bats give birth to their pups at exactly the same time. When this happens, Austinites see more than a million of them flying into the sunset.
