As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
We have plenty of mountains in Texas, but you probably didn’t know there’s one in the tiny town of Canton.
…okay, it isn’t a real mountain. But it IS a giant hill with a fully-functional Old West replica town sitting on top. With charming shops, restaurants, and live entertainment, it’s the perfect place to escape to for a blast from the past (not to mention it’s just minutes away from First Monday Trade Days!) You can actually spend the night there thanks to Dockside Cottages, a bed and breakfast with plenty of spacious + homey rooms for you and your family or friends to enjoy.
Located on a giant hill known as "The Mountain," Dockside Cottages are isolated from the rest of Canton and surrounded by a charming Old West village sure to take you back in time.
With six different cottages and 15 rooms overall, 56 guests can be accommodated. This is "The Captain's Quarters," a standalone cabin modeled after coastal bed & breakfasts in the northeast.
Some of the cottages, like the Dockside Hideaway, have multiple rooms. There are nine total here split between three separate houses, so it's perfect for large groups like bachelorette parties or family reunions.
Every cabin has a covered porch with outdoor seating, providing a peaceful place to enjoy your morning cup of coffee surrounded by towering cedars and pines + magical woodland creatures.
Amenities include private bathrooms, air and heat, a coffee pot, and complimentary bottled water + body wash and hand soap - everything you need to feel right at home yet as far away as possible.
Many of the rooms are themed, so you have the opportunity to experience a different adventure every time you stay! How does a night in the Oval Office sound?
Or perhaps you'd rather sleep while sailing the ocean blue, dreams full of waves gently crashing against the sandbar...there's a room for that as well!
As far as the rest of the Mountain, it comes alive during the summer. People gather at the entertainment center for live music + acting performances, monthly festivals, and more.
A boardwalk serves as the village's "Main Street," with tons of quaint and quirky shops lining it on eithe side. Stuffneat has home decor and jewelry, and you'll find other stores selling everything from beauty products to gourmet foods.
So if you're looking for a nice, quiet place to take an end-of-summer vacation to, look no further than Dockside Cottages on Canton Mountain. It's located at 542 Highway 64 East, Canton, TX.
