Or maybe 127 miles, whaddya say? As the days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer, it’s just about time to start making the yard and garage sale rounds. Spring cleaning makes for some great sales all the way around, and the 127 mile yard sale that stretches through the entirety of Tennessee, north to south, is a magnificent achievement and marvel of its own.
The idea for the 127 Mile Yard Sale actually came up in 1987, by a Fentress County official by the name of Mike Walker. The thought was to inspire visitors to explore off of the interstates, and delve more into the backroads where the kind local folk spend their time. The idea exploded - in the best way.
The yard sale now extends over 690 miles across the middle of the United States. You can find the event stretched from Gadsden, Alabama to five miles past Addison in Michigan. Ah, yes - you may have seen it on tv or in your favorite magazine as well. The event has been covered in media outlets like USA Today, Newsweek, the Tonight Show and HGTV.
127 Corridor Sale, as its called, has touted its pride as the, "World's Longest Yard Sale" for years now. The sale always begins on the first Thursday in August, and will stretch through to the following Sunday. It's the best way to clean out the closet, you know.
The planning headquarters is located here in Tennessee - Jamestown, to be exact. The yard sale has helped communities band together over four days to welcome scads of locals and tourists alike. Everyone has one of three goals in mind: look, buy, or SELL.
Scattered along Highway 27, you're bound to find a new treasure to call your own. The stories you'll hear from locals and the intense history of each state brings its own flavor of community to the game, leaving you with a whole lot of memory to take with.
Make sure to mark your calendars for the beginning of August. Maybe plan a few vacation days, take a road trip across the south. There's so much opportunity! You can find vendors on the website we've linked to below, if you're curious. Happy hunting!
You can find the vendor map here, and all the extra info you need here. Who knows? You may want to post up in your own vendor space, come summertime.
