You can visit The Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and it’s truly a one-of-a-kind attraction.
The Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum got its start as one woman's quest to find the art and unique styles behind shakers.
One day Andrea Rolf needed to buy a simple pepper mill, but then soon discovered a world of shapes, colors, sizes, and designs. This discovery was so appealing that she started a massive collection. After carefully displaying them and categorizing them in her home, her husband said "we have to do something about this." So the idea of a museum was born.
Now you can visit the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum to see rows and rows of shakers. There are over 20,000 on display, making it the world's largest collection.
This tour through time will start in ancient times leading through the 1500s, all the way up to the present day. In the 20th century section, you will see cultural changes from popular icons in the entertainment industry to past presidents.
The variety is staggering. The shelves are beautifully lined according to the color and design of each shaker pair. The color scheme makes for some real eye candy.
Some of the pieces may remind you of your own grandmother's house, but then other sets will be completely different. There are several shelves dedicated to a particular design or theme. You can find Christmas shakers as well as pandas, cats, vegetables and so much more.
