Finding a medieval castle in the United States is an incredibly difficult task. It’s simply not a part of North American history, and dredging up the past from another part of the globe is a daunting task. This feat of historical nature makes Williamswood Castle, a hidden castle near Knoxville, Tennessee, even more of an amazing find. Touted as one of the best spots in the state and available for overnight reservations, it’s the kind of experience you won’t want to miss.
Williamswood Castle is surrounded by the beautiful Ijams Nature Center, so you'll feel as if you've wandered into another world. Although it's located only ten minutes from the heart of Knoxville, 300 acres of natural space keeps the property beautifully isolated.
The interior is just as magnificent as the exterior of the castle, if not more. There's a multi-level balcony that overlooks the Tennessee River, a moving bookshelf, and forty-two stained glass windows.
The decor is incredible, and there are small details that pack a big punch throughout the space. There's even a replica of the Sistine Chapel painted on the ceiling of the main bedroom!
You'll sleep like a royal, and you'll want to after wandering the forested property all day. The ponds and forests span acres and acres, and after a long hike, you can return to Williamswood Castle for the on-site pub.
There's a two-night stay minimum, and 8 guests are allowed to stay the night at a time. Booking prices begin at $399 a night, though the price may fluctuate based on the time of year and local events.
