You thought you knew weird, but have you made your way down to Tennessee? For all its southern class and old school glamour, this state has a pretty good collection of skeletons in the closet. Take a look below at some of the crazy places we have hidden down here – then mosey on down yourself, hey?
15) Cooter's Place is, well, an actual place. Open seven days a week and lacking an admission fee, you have the chance to see original costumes and props from the popular, "Dukes of Hazzard."
14) A half-scale model of the doomed Titanic ocean-liner sits snug in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. No, the ocean isn't close but you can pick up a boarding pass and take tours through the whole of the interactive exhibit.
13) Did you know that the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville has been awarded, "Restroom of the Year" for its men's restroom? Because it most definitely has. Beautifully decorated with glass tiles and green accents, even women can come in and take a look.
12) If you ever happen to find yourself in Nutbush, you should most definitely take a look at the Tina Turner Museum. It's the only tribute currently dedicated to the singer in her home state, and is located at her once-elementary school. If you're a fan of the song, "Nutbush City Limits," then you know what we're talking about.
11) Crossville, Tennessee has the title for one of the largest treehouses in the nation. Although it is currently closed, the 1993 structure contains eighty rooms plus a chapel and bell tower.
10) Patsy Cline wasn't just beloved during her illustrious, though short, career. No, deep in the woods of Tennessee there is a small tribute to the singer. Strange and secluded, Cline is memorialized by an engraved stone and visiting area. Keep in mind, she isn't buried here - she's been laid to rest in her home state of Virginia.
9) Whirlwind Mansion was built in the early 1970's with swindled money, and it is anything but subtle. The exuberant estate boasts close to forty rooms, with a swimming pool and tennis courts and (supposedly) a gold toilet. Unfortunately, this place now sits abandoned in all its past glory because it is just too darn EXPENSIVE for anyone to live in. Go big or go home doesn't really apply here, now does it?
8) The Pink Elephant in Cookville is a definite must-see if you're road tripping through. Just think of all the Instagram captions.
7) Okay, RCA Studio B may not be the weirdest thing out there, but did you know that the Christmas lights inside haven't been moved since Elvis fancied to hang them? Take a tour and see for yourself!
6) The middle of the Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery has an eerie edge to it - why, you ask? Well, Crystal Shrine Grotto is a man-made cave dug sixty feet into the ground. Decorated with quartz crystals and fake cement stalagmites, the place is meant to exude a spiritual feel. Harp music reverberates within the walls and a pool dyed bright blue only add to the strangeness of this Tennessee tourist attraction.
5) This massive mural of former president Ronald Reagan is painted on the Republican Party Headquarters in Putnam County. We are honestly wondering what he would think of it.
4) A museum of salt and pepper shakers can be found in Gatlinburg. What better way to give tribute to our most constant spice friends? We'd be lost without them.
3) If you're stopping for a drink at Patrick's Pub and Grill, make sure you pay attention to which side of the room you've decided to sit. The state line runs straight through the center, so you may find yourself parking in one state and indulging in french fries in another. Also, you can only drink on the Tennessee side. Sorry, Georgia.
2) Late at night in early January 1987, a young couple went driving on Sugar Flat Road and barreled into a terrifying creature. Nervous and scared, they buried the body but kept the head (?!?!?!). You can see it at Buster's Antiques in Chattanooga.
1) The world's largest cedar bucket is in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Because you've dreamt about seeing it for years, haven't you?
