My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
When it is a lazy Sunday afternoon and you are looking for a way to get out of the house, then we have found the perfect place to visit. So grab a picnic lunch, gather the family in your car, and spend the rest of the day at this park with unforgettable views in Tennessee.
Willow Springs Park in Johnson City was first established in 1998.
The park sprawls across the 36-acre property with incredible views of the nearby mountains. The name of the park came from a local dairy farm with the same name that was in operation during the early 1900s. Willow Springs is great all year round, but it is particularly beautiful in the fall. The mountains light up in a fiery array of colors and the trees in the park showcase the autumn colors close up.
The park has winding paved paths for walking and exercise.
These paths curve around the hills and weave in and out of the wooded areas. There are lights that harken back to the early days of Johnson City and illuminate the park at night. One side of the park even has wooded paths if you want a more natural feel.

Near the southern entrance of the park, you can find a small pond. This tiny addition is a great place to look for frogs or watch the many turtles that call the pond home.
The water tower in the center of the kid's area is called Johnson’s Depot. In The early days of the city's conception, Henry Johnson, who later become the first mayor, built a depot as the rise of locomotives began to come through the area. The local community was called Johnson Tank and then switched to Johnson Depot until the city was incorporated in 1869 as Johnson City. The playground features a train and village-themed play.
There is also a members-only dog park in the northern part of the park.
This is a great place for man's best friend to frolic and play unleashed and enjoy the bone-shaped dog pools as well as the 1.6 acres of the fenced area. To become a member or find out more about this unique dog park, please visit Johnson City’s Dog Park Association website.
So whether you lay out a blanket and have a picnic, play with your kids at the playground, or take a walk, Willow Springs Park is a wonderful way to get out of the house. This truly is a park with unforgettable views in Tennessee plus so many other fun things to do with your family. Make sure you spend some time at this wonderful piece of Johnson City.
When you are marveling at the mountains from Willow Springs Park, you will see Buffalo Mountain. Make sure to visit this incredible hike as well.
