Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior of this gas station; what awaits inside is some of the most mouthwatering barbecue in the state. Pulling into the Excell Market parking lot, you wouldn't guess the building before you served award-winning barbecue. That's what makes this hidden gem of a destination so great. Inside, you'll find a modest set up of 16 dining tables. Yet this operation can serve up to 7,000 pounds of meat during its busiest weeks in the summer. The next stop on our list can be easily accessed from Exit 11 along Interstate 24. Reggie's BBQ is a newer barbecue joint in the Clarksville area, but it's no less impressive than other stops on this route. This delicious eatery saw its beginnings as a food truck in 2003. Today, Reggie's BBQ serves all different styles of the cuisine, although the pulled pork is decidedly North Carolina-style. South of the River is a family-run barbecue joint that's been established in the area under different names for multiple generations.
