It’s no secret that Memphis knows how to have a good time. They’ve been rocking and dancing to the blues music of Beale Street for decades, not to mention the contributions of The King or the fact that the city has The Memphis Sound named after it. There’s one bar in the Midtown area that is dedicated to having a good time in a unique kind of way, at least as far as bars go. At the Rec Room, you can find any game you’ve ever heard of and enjoy a nice drink while playing it.
The Rec Room in Memphis may not look like much from the street, but inside these doors, you'll find over 6,000 square feet of awesome where you can play any of hundreds and hundreds of games.
Whether you're looking for a dose of nostalgia or you're interested in figuring out what video games were like in the '80s, Rec Room's 25+ rotating arcade games are the perfect choice for you. Some of them are available for free and others require coin payment.
The bar also rents out what it calls "Living Rooms," which are groups of couches and chairs all pointed at a projector screen where you can have sole access to play any video game console on that projector for 1-hour increments. You and your friends can rent an Xbox and play vintage Halo all night for just a few bucks an hour! Living Rooms should be booked in advance on their website.
But this isn't just an arcade -- it's also a bar! Even their drinks are video game themed, of course. This blue drink here is appropriately named the Hadouken!
But if you thought they stop at video games, you're sadly mistaken. They also have wrestling matches in the bar from time to time as well as karaoke nights. We told you this place knows how to have a good time!
Rec Room is open every day of the week with varying hours every day. For the full list of hours and available games, be sure to visit their website. Their space is in Midtown Memphis at 3000 Broad Avenue.
Step out in to the Tennessee countryside to experience this small-town eatery that became famous for perfecting a very specific food item.
