My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
When we think about natural wonders in Tennessee, there are a few obvious places that may come to mind. The Great Smoky Mountains are filled with amazing natural features that have inspired countless visitors. Others may have think of Ruby Falls — which is the country’s biggest underground free-falling waterfall — as the standout natural wonder in Tennessee. The Cedars of Lebanon State Park, too, holds within it a natural wonder in Tennessee: a rare ecosystem not found anywhere else.
Cedars of Lebanon is a beautiful and well-maintained state park filled with camping, activities, hiking, and much more.
This natural area has been home to many family camping trips for travelers and locals alike. Early settlers named the park after the Biblical accounts written about this famous forest in the Mediterranean region called the Cedars of Lebanon. The large amount of Eastern Cedar trees reminded them of these passages and thus named it Cedars of Lebanon.
Those cedar trees are simply beautiful but there is something special going on in the soil that makes everything in this park so unique.
Throughout these glades, the soil is so thin that it has become very inhospitable to most plant life. However, because of this, the soil is perfect for creating a unique ecosystem. This harsh environment has made the perfect home for nineteen rare plants like these flowers.
There are eight miles of the park designated for hiking, and as you travel along we encourage you to take a look down. Some of the flowers, moss, and plants you step by are incredibly rare and wholly unique to the state park.
Another popular activity in the park is to take a picnic and just relax in the shade of the cedar trees. After hiking throughout the park a nice way to finish the day is to watch the sunset behind the canopy of leaves and enjoy a meal in the soft grass.
The Cedars of Lebanon in Lebanon, Tennessee, is a certain unique park that can only be completely appreciated when you slow down and see the interesting plant life around you. Sometimes the smallest of things can capture our attention and marvel at just how beautiful our world really is. For more information please visit the Cedars of Lebanon State Park website.
