The Incredibly Unique Wildlife Experience That You Can Have Right Here In Tennessee
Going on an African safari is on a great many folk’s bucket list, but what if you could experience a small taste of the savannah right here in Tennessee? A Saturday morning zoo visit is one of the sweetest ways to spend a weekend, especially if you have little ones in tow. We just figured out that a visit to an eastern Tennessee zoo will give you an experience to remember…and with one of our favorite animals. Can you guess?

The Zoo Knoxville, (yep - NOT the Knoxville Zoo anymore!) is located east of the already eastern Tennessee city, and takes up 53-acres of land.

It's home to roughly 800 animals and 400,000 visitors on an annual basis, making it one of the most popular animal refuges in the state of Tennessee.

Although there are all sorts of classes and experiences you can get at the zoo - visiting the Bird Show in the on-site theater, catching Wildlife Up Close in the Main Entry Plaza or getting up close and personal with primates - there's one experience that we rank high above the rest.

Feeding the giraffes!

These long necked beauties gracefully regard crowds of sweet (and perhaps not so sweet) children as they visit with mom and dad in tow. Here in Knoxville, however, you don't just have to look - you can experience the action on certain days, as well.

The giraffe's encounter experience takes place on Thursdays and Sundays at 2:00pm, and all are welcome to show up to take part in a bit of the action.

The zoo itself is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and until 5 p.m. on weekends, with tickets starting at $19.95 for adults and $16.95 for children and seniors. Under four? You can come for free!
