Tennessee is of course known for its incredible barbecue, for its southern, home-cooked meals, and the hospitality that folks just seem to be born with. It’s that sense of community, those hard-earned family values that bring the spice of life to a state like ours, but spots like BJ & S Soul Food Restaurant that provide the sustenance. If you haven’t been, this Knoxville eatery is a must-visit for the entire family and all your friends!
BJ &S Family Restaurant is located in Knoxville, Tennessee, a college town and bustling metropolis located on the east side of the state. Perhaps best known for its University and proximity to the Smoky Mountains, it's also an underrated foodie city.
BJ &S Family Restaurant stands for "Brothers Johnson and Sister BBQ," and its made a name for itself in the city for its quality southern food made by true locals. This isn't a tourist trap, but rather a local gem that takes a lot of pride in good food and kind service.
Come for the wings, stay for the mac 'n cheese! If you have a favorite soul food dish, this incredible Knoxville restaurant is bound to have it. The meat is perfectly cured and cooked, the green beans have the best consistency this side of the Mason-Dixon line, and the collard greens are downright delectable. And we don't say that lightly!
...to freshly cooked meats and all sorts of sandwiches, BJ &S Family Restaurant is a local gem for a reason. We'd recommend the pulled pork sandwich, with a little extra sauce to doctor it up good. With some baked beans on the side, it's the closest thing to heaven you'll ever eat.
Knoxville does a great job holding up its end of the state when it comes to bbq. Nashville and Memphis get a ton of attention for their culinary prowess, but it seems that the eastern side of the state is relegated to hiking and camping and Smoky Mountain-related experiences. BJ &S Family Restaurant is changing the face of bbq in this eastside town, one happy customer at a time.
