Riding a bike down a greenway or through a local state park is probably one of the greatest joys of spring. Now that winter is over and summer simply on the horizon, we have a couple of weeks to enjoy the lightness of April and May, without the humidity and with ALL of the early evening date nights. Lets trek around Tennessee by bike, and find some of our special parks that will sure to elevate your springtime.
10. Kingsport Greenbelt - Kingsport
The Kingsport Greenbelt is great because it is completely paved, perfect for cyclists for all times of the year. The greenbelt tends to get fairly crowded later on in the day, but it's only because of its easily traversed pathways that make it great for folks of all ages. Eight miles of trails are sure to keep you busy, and will tire your littles out pretty quick!
9. Maryville-Alcoa Greenway - Maryville
This Blount County gem is completely paved, and makes it easy for you to bike, skate or simply walk down their nine miles of greenway. Its wheelchair accessibility makes the Maryville-Alcoa Greenway even better, in our opinion.
8. Richland Creek Greenway - Nashville
This Nashville-based greenway is great for folks of all ages, completely paved and running through some of the prettiest areas just west of the city. Easy to get to, great for running and even training with its hills, you can enjoy five miles of greenway along Richland Creek.
7. Clarksville Greenway - Clarksville
Clarksville has seriously upgraded when it comes to their outdoor and natural areas. At just under five miles of trail, the Clarksville Greenway is where you take your kids and bike 'til the sun sets. It's a summertime must!
6. Shelby Farms Greenline - Memphis
Man, if we had to pick the gem of Memphis - this would be it. The greenway at Shelby Farms is one of the best places to bike in the state, with over ten miles of asphalt for you to get your cycling on. Great for kids and adults, you can even wander about leisurely, if your heart so desires.
5. Shelby Bottoms Greenway - Nashville
Located in beautiful East Nashville, the Shelby Bottoms Greenway follows the Cumberland River for over five miles, from the south end of the neighborhood up to the Two Rivers area. Be sure to make it all the way to Two Rivers for the stunning views from the bridge.
4. Chattanooga River Walk - Chattanooga
Also known as Tennessee Riverpark, this waterside trail is undergoing a lot of expansion. Currently at 8 miles long, there are plans to extend it from downtown Chattanooga to the TVA dam and Moccasin Bend National Archaeological District, making for 22 miles of gorgeous greenway, right along the Tennessee River.
3. Springfield Greenway - Springfield
Located just half an hour north of Nashville, this is a great place for the outdoors-loving Nashvillian to go and escape the crowds of the greenways in the city. The three-mile trail winds along a small creek, making for the perfect place to get away from it all.
2. Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail - Ashland City
Covering just under 7 miles along the Cumberland, this trail is paved over an old railroad track line, which makes for some beautiful crossings over old railroad bridges when the trail crosses the river.
1. Stones River Greenway - Nashville to Murfreesboro
The Stones River Greenway winds just over 10 miles from the Percy Priest Dam to the North end of Shelby Park in East Nashville. The paved greenway offers stunning views of the Cumberland and Stones Rivers all along the route.
