No one really knows where the quirky name "Bell Buckle" came from. Some believe that the first white settlers found a carving of a cowbell and buckle on the trees, most likely done in warning by Native American tribes. Others say they actually found a bell and buckle tied around a tree, which gave the name "Bell Buckle" to a nearby creek. The town then took its name from the waterway.
