My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
Did you know that there are almost 10,000 caves in Tennessee? Not only is that a lot of caves, but that is more than any other state in the United States. It’s good to be numero uno at something, and I can tell you there are some really cool caves in the Volunteer State. The Caverns in Pelham, Tennessee, are among the most unique because this attraction is one of the only places where you can see a live show underground. That’s right — this cave is also one of the top concert venues in the world and we have it right in our own backyard.
I have been to a lot of concerts over my short years here on this earth. Gathering friends and going on a road trip to see one of your favorite artists are among some of my fondest memories.
There always seems to be electricity in the air and the excitement is palpable. The raw energy of the performers interacting with the crowd is an exhilarating ebb and flow that can’t be replicated anywhere else. Now take all of that experience and jam pack it into a massive cave and then you have begun to imagine what a night at The Caverns is like.
The massive cave room is where you will find this renowned concert hall. Anyone who has played music before understands the importance of acoustics. You don’t have to be a sound engineer to know the value of a well-set-up venue!
At The Caverns, the natural acoustics are perfect and allow the sound to bounce off the walls and create a pumping space that is perfectly set up for a concert. The cave is also fitted with the latest technology for sound and lights. The way that lasers and lights play off of the rock walls is a fascinating addition to the rocking underground shows.

You may have heard of the PBS show that features concerts in the cave called The Cavern Sessions, which was formally known as Bluegrass Underground.
This very cave is where they have shot multiple seasons and have captured dozens of live shows. You can take a look at some of the live recordings they have captured deep within this subterranean amphitheater by checking out The Cavern Sessions website.
You can choose between two different tours the guided tour and the adventure cave tour. On your guided tour you will get a behind-the-scenes look at the music venue which is an impressive open room that is bigger than 3 football fields. On the adventure tour, you will partake in a little extreme caving and squeeze through the infamous section known as the Tombstone Pass.
If you want to extend your stay so you don’t have to drive far after a late-night concert, or you just want to explore the area more then they also offer onsite yurts for rent. These spacious accommodations will give you plenty of comfortable amenities all while enjoying the beautiful property that The Caverns are located under. To book a night stay make sure you check out The Cavern Yurt’s Airbnb page.
Foster Falls is only about a 30-minute drive from The Caverns and is a beautiful waterfall and swimming area in South Cumberland State Park. So whenever you go to see a concert just remember to pair it with an epic cave tour and a hike to this beautiful plunge waterfall.
The Caverns in Pelham, TN, is the greatest underground show on earth and it is conveniently located right in our own backyard. If you are a music lover looking for the next great show or just love to explore unique attractions The Caverns are the place for you. For more information, please visit The Caverns website.
