My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
One of the greatest feelings in the world is leaving for a road trip. There is so much excitement built into the moment the rubber meets the road, and you can roll down the windows and feel the air as you propel your car down the street to your destination. I love gathering my family together and taking off on a road trip. We have had some epic road trips over the years, and one thing that always helps is having a beautiful and scenic route to take. The Natchez Trace is a great way to slow things down and enjoy the journey; along the way, you can stop in the charming town of Collinwood, Tennessee.
Sometimes the roads in between serve only the purpose of getting you from one location to another. But then again, in Tennessee, we have some pretty incredible scenic routes.
Take the Natchez Trace for example. This epic road stretches from Nashville all the way down into Natchez, Mississippi. This road can be the destination all by itself. Just allow your pace of life to slow down a little and enjoy all the curves and views from this massive route.
There are plenty of places along the way to stop and splash in a nearby river, explore the forest, find some waterfalls, and learn some history.
There is plenty to do on this route, and it certainly lends itself to being a peaceful drive. Take the Sweetwater Branch Trail, for instance. This trail is a great point along the journey to get out and stretch your legs. Walk by the swaying grass and wildflowers to the pleasant little creek on a simple half-mile stroll.

If you are on the Natchez Trace heading south from Nashville, you will eventually drive right along the outskirts of a little town called Collinwood.
This is a charming little town you will want to stop and take a break to see. The whole town has that middle Tennessee charm to it, and it feels like it is content to remain stuck in time.
The charming storefronts alone make this a must-see location. Wandering the roads of the town you will find old churches scattered with a couple of chain stores as well as local gems.
One store I find particularly interesting is Collinwood Hardware.
The exterior looks like it has remained the same for years, and it brings to mind a classic small-town store you may picture when you think of towns like this. Inside, they carry many of the tools and supplies needed for small-town living and they have a heart to serve their community. These are also the kind of places where you will undoubtedly find good old Southern hospitality.
Need a quick pick-up before you hit the road again? The Dragon Fly is the place for you.
This little coffee shop also serves up some pretty tasty treats, as well. Grab a coffee to go, and make sure you order something sweet while you're at it. It also sells a variety of homemade goods and interesting gifts, making this a great place to check out before you get back on the road for the rest of the day.
There is nothing quite like a road trip, it is a great way to see the world at a slower pace, and with all of the scenic routes we have here in the Volunteer State, these kinds of adventures are always easy to find. So next time you plan a trip down the Natchez Trace, make a stop in the charming little town of Collinwood, Tennessee.
