My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
It’s time to get outside and breathe in the fresh forest air and spend a whole weekend hiking! There are so many great hiking trails in Tennessee, it might be hard to choose. Well, today we’re sharing yet another opportunity to spend the whole weekend in the great outdoors. So lace up your boots, grab your day pack, and get ready for some of the best hiking trails in Sewanee, Tennessee, for an epic weekend.
If you are traveling from another part of the state it’s important to establish a home base first.
This Tiny home in the South Cumberland Plateau is just outside of town and will provide you with everything you need for your hiking getaway. With enough room to sleep four people, this place is perfect if you are traveling with your family or you want to bring along some friends for the trip. There is a bathroom and a kitchen so you won't be roughing it, but you can still spend plenty of time outside. The cabin is close to town and for a reasonable price, it's pretty tough to beat for your Sewanee hiking trip.
There are so many great hikes around Sewanee that we wanted to show you some of our favorites, beginning with Bridal Veil Falls.
This trail is a little over two miles with an elevation gain of 479 feet, making the hike steep, but doable. Bridal Veil Falls is a series of cascades dripping down over a couple of rock ledges making it one beautiful waterfall. The journey getting there is just as great with bridges and a well-marked trail.
This trail will pair up with the Perimeter Trail and will take you on a 2.5-mile hike with 741 feet of elevation gain so this hike is also considered "moderate" for most. You will be putting in good miles on your hiking boots for this weekend trip but the scenery will be a great payoff. This trail boasts some bridges, stunning overlooks, epic rock formations, and beautiful forests. This trail has something for everyone and is well worth the addition to your weekend hiking trip in Sewanee.
...Sewanee Natural Bridge! This trail will take you less than a quarter of a mile to complete and you will get a chance to see this amazing natural arch. You can even walk on top of and under the bridge. Before you move on to the next thing make sure you check out the cave nearby too.
Time to hit the trail again with the Morgan’s Steep to the Sewanee Memorial Cross.
This trail will take you on a 2.4-mile journey with 324 feet of elevation gain so it shouldn't be nearly as difficult as some of the previous trails. The hardest part of this trail will be finding your way; however, so be sure and follow the map closely. If you stay on the trail you will be treated to some amazing ledges, rock formations, views, and more beautiful forests. At the end of the hike, you will arrive at a massive memorial cross with a fantastic view.
To finish off the trip, we can’t think of a better place than Piney Point.
This stunning overlook can be found on this two-mile hike with an elevation gain of only 150 feet so it should be a good fitting end to an epic trip in Sewanee. Like many of the trails in Sewanee, the journey is simply beautiful with fascinating rock formations, and many points of interest along the way. The real reward is the overlook -- if you time it just right you can catch the sunset for a gorgeous view!
These hiking trails in Sewanee, Tennessee, are just some of the options in this amazing section of our state. We have done the work of planning the trip for you so all you have to do now is book your night and see why this section of the Volunteer State is so worth exploring.
