It’s the grand bald eagle, however, that really captures the imagination. If you’re looking to see a bald eagle for yourself, there’s no better place than Reelfoot Lake. The wintering population found here is truly remarkable, and folks come from all over to see the Reelfoot Lake bald eagles.
Most folks don't realize it, but Reelfoot Lake outside of Memphis, Tennessee is home to one of the largest populations of wintering bald eagles in the United States.
This vintage photo of Reelfoot Lake only goes to show how long visitors have been enjoying outdoor adventures on the water. The folks here at Reelfoot Lake have been conducting guided eagle tours in the park every winter since 1974.
The tours are led by both state park rangers and naturalists, so you can be sure you'll learn all sorts of neat facts about the bald eagle population. The tours are roughly two hours long and are taken by bus. Sorry, folks - if you're looking to hop on a canoe, that's a separate experience.
There is what is considered a "moderate charge" for the eagle tour, so make sure you bring a few bucks. Or maybe visit the Reelfoot Lake Eagle Festival that takes place annually in February. There are multiple options to be astounded in the grand and great natural beauty of the state.
Bald eagles are one of the neatest birds to spy out and about in the wilds of Tennessee, and the people out here at Reelfoot Lake try to make it as easy for you as possible to see one of the regal eagles for yourself.
