Autumn in Tennessee is arguably one of the most beautiful seasons in the United States, with the Great Smoky Mountains lighting up in all shades of orange, red, and yellow, and the rest of the state quickly follows suit. As the end of summer quickly approaches, folks are turning towards the promise and beauty of fall that’s bound to herald the holiday season. The state of Tennessee is truly stunning during the fall season, and the southern state is lucky to experience a solid few weeks of autumnal color throughout September, October, and November.
You can see here that fall foliage will begin to sweep across the United States in its upper regions at the end of September, and will continue towards its peak at the beginning or end of November.
You can see here that Tennessee's major peak will be around October 11th, so you can plan to take all of your fall photos around mid-October when the color is plain perfect. You'll see more color earlier the further east you travel, so the Great Smoky Mountains may be the best spot to vacation if you're in search of some fall time beauty.

If you are planning to make a trip out of experiences autumn's color, keep in mind that you'll nearing the end of the seasonal peak by October 25th. You can see by the map key that foliage will be past its prime by the end of October, and will carry on westward across the state through to mid-November.
Lily Bluff Overlook can be found overlooking Clear Creek, and it's best known as a whitewater kayaking destination. By the end of October, though, this entire gully will be consumed by fall colors.
