My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
With big family gatherings full of tasty carbo loading, I have to say the Italians are on to something when it comes to mealtime. It is tough to argue that some of the best food in the world comes from everyone’s favorite boot-shaped country. The Angry Italian in Bristol, Tennessee, brings authentic Chicago-inspired Italian cuisine to the Tri-Cites and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. So if pasta is your love language, prepare yourself for a whole love tank full of these tasty dishes.
Even the location of The Angry Italian speaks to its communal spirit.
If you are familiar with Bristol, it straddles the state line where one side of the road is Tennessee and the other side is Virginia. The Angry Italian is on the Tennessee side, but you could view this road as a meshing of two cultures -- which perfectly describes what you will find at this restaurant. With influences coming from Italian and Chicago cuisine, it's only appropriate for this place to be located on a road that straddles two states.
Keith Yonker is the owner and executive chef of this fine establishment.
Yonker has traveled the world and acquired quite a long list of accomplishments over his culinary career. However, being born and raised in Chicago, his roots and passions always return to that classic Windy City brand of Italian cuisine. After desiring to make his home in Eastern Tennessee, an opportunity opened up that ultimately led to The Angry Italian. The offbeat name of the restaurant comes from the owner himself, but the staff claims he isn’t mad -- just animated, which is pretty standard for Chicagoans.
I mean, just look at that delicious piece of pizza! If that doesn’t say “inviting” I don’t know what does. The staff works hard to make sure everyone is served well and when it comes time to leave they are full and happy. With food this good, that second part shouldn’t be a problem at all.
Perhaps a classic baked penne might suit you well. Mixing up a thick creamy meat sauce, ricotta cheese, penne pasta, and the perfect texture of melted and baked mozzarella, each bite is a revelation!
This is one of the best pasta entrees on the menu and a common favorite among the locals. Sausage wrapped in pasta purses, lathered in a secret sauce, and topped with shaved Parmigiano Reggiano... this is one dish that's simply to die for.
Of course, everyone knows how much we Tennesseans love our smoked meats... and just because you are at an Italian restaurant, you don’t have to miss out on a BBQ classic!
The Smoked Tuscan Chicken Penne might be your next favorite meal. The chicken is smoked right in the restaurant then mixed with a mouth-watering tomato sauce, penne pasta, and mozzarella. As you can see, this is only a taste of the fine options awaiting you at Bristol's best Italian restaurant.
