My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
The old locomotive unfortunately just does not hold the cultural relevance it once had. We now have trucks instead of trains, and planes that fly in the sky rather than cars on a track. Even though the golden days of the railroad are behind us, there are plenty of places that work to preserve the history of trains so we can experience how fun it is to hop aboard and go for a ride. If you happen to be looking for a train ride in Bristol, Tennessee, we have a great family-fun trip for you. All aboard the Steele Creek Express!
Steele Creek Park is a family fun outing all on its own.
Do you want to huck discs into baskets? There's an 18-hole disc golf course for you. If you want to grab a family member and take a paddle boat out on the lake, you can do that too. If you are into regular golf, feel free to tee off on the 9-hole golf course. The trail system in the park is always a favorite. When you are done with your walk, make sure to cool off at the splash pad. You could also beat the heat and go indoors to the nature center to see exhibits that showcase the natural beauty of the local area.
Then, of course, there is the train ride. It's the most popular attraction at Steele Creek Park, and it's easy to understand why.
The train is a 24-gauge replica of the iconic old-style steam trains. The classic smoke stack will emit glorious puffs of smoke just like in the glory days of the railroad.
The building is used as a concession stand and ticket booth for the train ride. It is always heartwarming to see the community gather together around something that everyone can enjoy.
The train has been around since 1964 and has brought generations of families together. Older visitors are now taking their grandkids on this iconic train ride.
See for yourself just how charming this little train is in this video.
Kids and adults alike will line up to enjoy this ride. The Steele Creek Express operates daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day and on the weekends in spring and fall. Check the Steele Creek Park website for information about visiting, including operating hours and ticket prices.
