My name is Chris Dodge and I live right here in the great state of Tennessee. My family and I are full adventurers filled with passion to see the amazing things our state has to offer. We are avid hikers and have explored many different places in Tennessee and beyond but we are always thankful to be living in such a glorious state.
When it comes to the fiery colors of fall we are blessed with here in Tennessee, there is no end to the beautiful places you can go to experience a scenic fall drive. With so many state parks, mountain trails, and of course, the Smokies, that display brilliant colors, the only question, then, is whichplaces do we visit this year? For a laid-back Sunday drive through the pastoral countryside of Tennessee, head down the Natchez Trace Parkway for some amazing autumn scenes.
The Natchez Trace Parkway spans 444 miles from Nashville, Tennessee, to Natchez, Mississippi. This scenic road from north to south practically goes through our entire state and is maintained by the National Parks Service. It also happens to be a lovely place for a fall drive.
No matter where you start or finish, along the journey you will be treated to impressive dashboard views that glow with autumn colors during the fall season. Two sites you don't want to miss are the Metal Ford and the Swan View Overlook.
The Loveless Cafe is right off of the Trace and the perfect way to start (or end) your journey. You can sit down for a classic dining experience, but whatever you do, make sure you order some of those famous biscuits.
Closer to Nashville, the Natchez Trace Parkway Bridge offers stunning views from the top or from the ground. If you happen to work your way to one of the viewpoints you will be amazed at this expansive double-arched bridge framed in fall foliage.
The Trace offers plenty of opportunities to get out and stretch your legs, too, and what better place than Fall Hollow Falls? A short walk through crunchy foliage will lead you to a 20-foot waterfall plunging into the pool below.
Autumn can also be the perfect setting for something a bit spooky, so a trip to the Meriwether Lewis Burial Memorial is a must. The mysterious events that led to this explorer's untimely death are represented by this broken monument that symbolizes a life cut short.
If you are looking for a place to stay along to extend your experience of this scenic route, check out these tiny houses. The Natchez Tiny House Village is located in the Thousand Trails Natchez Trace Campground -- they all have backstories and are adorably charming.
What is your favorite place for a scenic fall drive in Tennessee? If you have never been to the Natchez Trace, then you owe yourself a trip — especially when the leaves start to turn. For more information on this route, please visit the Natchez Trace Parkway website.
