There’s nothing that brings people together better than food, and in Tennessee, that main type of food? Cornbread. Every year, South Pittsburg, Tennessee puts on the National Cornbread Festival for a whole slew of hungry folks. It takes place in April, which means the weather is usually bright with the edge of spring and sliding quick towards summertime. This family-friendly event is well worth a weekend, and you may just find yourself coming every year. What a neat opportunity for a new tradition!
The National Cornbread Festival is now celebrating over 20 years of food-centric fun in Tennessee. It began in 1996 as a small idea and has since blossomed into a highly anticipated annual event. Lodge Manufacturing, a local supplier of cast iron cookware, sits front and center throughout the festival.
Every year folks are treated to everything from a 5k for the most athletic-minded, to an antique tractor exhibit, classic car show, cooking demonstrations, a small carnival and live music. Plus the food vendors, of course.
Over 350 local folks join forces on an annual basis to make The National Cornbread Festival successful. The cooking demos are some of the best in the region, and you can even attend information sessions that teach you about the care required for your cast iron cookware.
Food demos and samplings are definitely one of the highlights of the event, as is the Lodge Cast Iron® National Championship Cornbread Cook-Off. Folks from all around come with their favorite original recipes to go head-to-head for the winning recipe.
Will you be joining in 2020? South Pittsburg will be hosting the National Cornbread Festival from April 25th to the 26th, and it simply wouldn't be the same without you.
