Hiking in the wintertime may not be as popular as brisk spring walks and sultry summer afternoons in the mountains, but it does offer an icy, spare beauty that can’t be found any other time of year. These seven trails are located all around Nashville, and they’re great places to view the beauty of the coldest time of the year. A majority are great for the whole family, so there’s no need to leave the littles at home. Get some fresh air and fall in love with the grandeur of a southern winter all over again.
Stillhouse Hollow Falls Trail is located near Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, and is a great spot for hiking and nature trips. At only 1.2 miles long, the loop trail is perfect for a low-key Saturday jaunt through the heart of Middle Tennessee.
Beaman Park is a lush 1,678 acre natural area that stretches across the northern edge of Davidson County. There are three hiking trails throughout the park itself, with three trailheads and over five miles of trail to follow. We'd recommend the Henry Hollow Loop, which is a perfect 2.5 mile length that's great for hiking and trail running.
Burgess Falls is located on Falling Water River, and boasts a 2.7 mile hike that's wonderful for moderately experienced hikers. It is a loop, so there's no need to turn back around on this Sparta-based trail. There are four waterfalls throughout the park as well, which make for beautifully frozen viewing.
The Cheeks Bend Bluff View Trail is 1.9 miles in all, and it's located right outside of Columbia, Tennessee. Perfect for folks of all ages, you'll walk along the river and can access the trail all year-round. Make sure to bring Fido along, too. It's pet-friendly!
Cedars of Lebanon has some of the best hiking trails in the heart of Middle Tennessee. From the easy Hidden Springs and Cedar Forest Trails to the moderate Cedar Run Trail, the entire park is rife with the opportunity to wander the wilderness.
Couchville Cedar Glade is made up of 128-acres in the middle of Davidson and Wilson Counties. The Natural Area Loop is a mere 0.9 miles, and it's a beautiful space that features stunning fall foliage and the icy brilliance of the wintertime. It's great for folks of all ages!
The Short Springs Loop Trail is located near Tullahoma, Tennessee, and it takes hikers right by the stunning park lake. It's of moderate difficulty, but the 2.6 miles will fly by as you wander the frozen wonderland of Tennessee.
