Nashville is the kind of place that seems to be an ever-revolving door of new eateries and restaurants. The city has become a contemporary mecca for foodies, boasting a wide range of global cuisine and specialties instead of its normal range of southern fare. Still, with so much change, it’s nice to know a few things have stayed the same. Sweet 16th Bakery in East Nashville, Tennessee, is a time capsule of the city’s earlier days. Come visit and run into a ream of locals, find neighbors meeting neighbors and parents with strollers full of kids ordering breakfast sandwiches and mochas. Sweet 16th Bakery is a true gem of local community and worth a visit!
Sweet 16th Bakery is located in East Nashville, Tennessee, and remains one of the few remaining Nashville dining standards from years past. Known as a, "Neighborhood Bakery," this tiny shop has remained close to the same since its inception in 2004. With all the change and upheaval in Nashville, it's a breath of fresh air.
The airy interior is offset by a bright pastry case filled with everything from cookies to hunks of macaroni and cheese. It's true! There are not only selections of freshly baked scones, muffins and brownies, but also savory meal options like lasagna and quiche.
Here's a closer look at that pastry case...there's something sweet (and perhaps savory?) for everyone! We'd highly recommend snagging a few cookies to go, if you can. There's also hot and iced coffee and teas available for purchase.
Of course, it's their hefty breakfast sandwich that really takes the cake. Sweet 16th Bakery has managed to toe the line between decadent and satisfying, balancing a hefty breakfast sandwich that boasts heaps of flavor.
Known as the, "One to GO," the sandwich is made up of a cheddar cheese scone topped with egg and cheese casserole, served up hot and toasty. It's a true comfort food!
The number of sweet items in the bakery are all made from scratch and on-site, but the flavors change depending on the day and time of year. It's a most decadent surprise every day, but you can be sure that classics like chocolate chip cookies and blueberry muffins are consistently available.
You can visit for yourself from 7 a.m. to 2 pm. from Tuesday to Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Keep in mind that Sweet 16th is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
If you’re looking for another East Nashville eatery, perhaps for lunch and dinner time, the darling lou. cafe is a welcome addition to the neighborhood!
