Brunch is probably the most popular, yet least common meal in the nation. Everyone loves it, but it’s only available a handful of days a week. It seems like the worst kind of oxymoron, don’t you think? Due to the sheer popularity of mimosas and runny eggs, these seven incredible restaurants around Nashville have welcomed everything from buttered toast to shaksuka. If you haven’t visited, then you simply must. Some of the best brunch in Nashville is hiding right in plain sight.
1. Josephine
Josephine has long been lauded as a stylish eatery that boasts both decadent interior design and an expansive bar. A must-visit for folks visiting the 12th Avenue South shopping district, it's also one of the best spots in the city for brunch. Indulge in a pistachio and dried cherry sticky bun, or maybe take a bite of New England with a fresh lobster salad served with creamy mustard dressing. There's everything from biscuit and gravy platters to brunch fried rice on the menu, and each plate somehow tastes better than the last.
2. Pastaria
Pastaria is a St. Louis native that made its home in Nashville back in 2017. It's known for its homemade pastas and Italian classics, but it's also a perfect place for brunchtime. From brioche donuts to a lush carbonara, there's something for everyone on Pastaria's broad brunch menu. The breakfast pizza is served up with eggs, fontina, Canadian bacon and a tomato-hollandaise, making the perfect Italian-American brunch mash-up.
3. Butcher & Bee
Butcher & Bee is an eastside sleeper hit that has been serving up small plates to great fanfare for years. It tends to run under the radar, but this Charleston original serves up a consistently changing brunch menu, since all ingredients are locally sourced and fresh. During the autumn season, you can snag a plate of pumpkin spice fresh toast served with toasted marshmallow and pecans, or the B&B biscuit, served with whipped feta and honey butter. Yum!
4. Henrietta Red
Henrietta Red is largely known for its delicious seafood offerings, but come brunch time there's a whole heap of decadent eats. You can keep it simple and elevated with smoked trout toast, or indulge in a Farmers' Market quiche served with butter lettuce. The sweet potato coffee cake is legendary, and the monkey bread (pictured) is made with honey, sugar and orange extract. Pure indulgences.
5. Milk and Honey
Milk & Honey is located in the Gulch, and it serves up meals all day long. From breakfast to brunch to lunch and dinner, the menu is long and well-honed. We'd recommend ordering the apple cinnamon porridge if you're looking for a sweet beginning to the day with a dose of healthy grains, or snag one of their fresh toasts, like olive oil topped soft scrambled egg toast or sourdough french toast topped with berries.
6. The Old School
The Old School may be located in what once operated as a schoolhouse, but now it serves up A+ meals instead of grades. The menu will change seasonally, but you can expect a meal bursting with fresh flavor and in-season produce. Snag a goat cheese beignet or a cinnamon roll, and make sure to top of the savory half of your meal with a spicy Bloody Mary.
7. Cafe Roze
Cafe Roze isn't just a coffee shop. No, this East Nashville gem serves every meal of the day, though most folks don't know it just yet. It's a fabulous little find. The avocado breakfast shake is made with kale, banana, bee pollen and almond milk, and it's the perfect sweet accent to country ham toast. Snag an egg sandwich served with cheddar, bacon and tomato jam, and make sure those stout waffles make their way to your plate. They're served with heaps of mascarpone and seasonal fruits.
