Take This Weekend Trip From Nashville To See The Most Spectacular Fall Colors
This beautiful lake is located on the western side of the state, and it’s the only naturally formed lake in the heart of Tennessee. Thanks to our fabulous TVA initiative we have a state that’s speckled with gorgeous watery expanses, but this gorgeous lake has a special spot in our hearts. If you haven’t been to Reelfoot Lake yet? Then you’re about to be a convert.

Reelfoot Lake was formed by a series of earthquakes in the early 19th century known as the New Madrid Earthquakes. A series of quakes rocked the state from 1811 to 1812, and although it caused a solid amount of destruction, there was also a form of rejuvenation in the beautiful creation of Reelfoot Lake.

How did that happen, you ask? Well, the quakes were so intense that they caused the great Mississippi to flow BACKWARDS, where it flooded the nearby cypress forest. Nowadays, Reelfoot Lake is one of the only naturally formed lakes in the state.

15,000 acres of lake and forest makes for an incredible experience in autumnal foliage. The trees burst with color and light, perfect for nature lovers or even the spare photographer.

Most folks will come by to go hunting or fishing, but others come to hike through the gorgeous forests and relax by the waterside. If you're a fan of canoeing, then you're in luck — there's no better place for a peaceful paddle in the great outdoors.

You can choose to paddle alone or with others, as the park offers afternoon and sunset cruises and seasonal "floats" as a community event. You can choose to camp overnight as well, indulging in either an RV site or a primitive campsite. There are electrical hookups, water and even a bath house on the property, or you can rent a cabin by the night.

Tiptonville, Tennessee sure knows how to stay beautiful! Located roughly three hours from Nashville, Reelfoot Lake State Park is one of the best places to visit this autumn.
You can experience a whole new side of Tennessee at this darling little town, a spot that may just be the new Napa Valley.
