Mas Tacos has made a name for itself over and over as a prime slinger of Nashville tacos. It’s locally lauded, nationally acclaimed, and humble as pie. The low-key eatery offers $3 tacos filled to the brim with perfectly cooked meats, veggies and even fried avocados. What most people don’t hear about, however, is their tamale special. The delicious tamale, an authentic Mexican entree, is an underrated gem in Nashville’s favorite taco hot spot. The next time you have a spare handful of change in your wallet, it’s well worth the investment.
Mas Tacos Por Favor is known as Nashville's top spot for authentic Mexican streetfare, and has experienced its own Cinderella story of sorts. The taco shop started out in a Winnebago, slinging tacos around town as a food truck.
It has since grown into one of the most highly acclaimed and affordable brick-and-mortar eateries in the area. It's East Nashville location has expanded to include a bar and greater seating opportunities, and there's an outdoor patio for good weather and larger groups.
Whereas the pork tacos and fried avocado specials are known around town for their perfectly savory flavors, it's the authentic tamales that deserve a nod or two.
The tamales at Mas Tacos are served as a special, normally on Wednesdays, and have even been featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" as one of Guy Fieri's favorite menu additions. At only $3 a pop, the same cost as a taco, these hand-rolled beauties are a perfect lunchtime addition.
They look pretty fabulous, don't they? Mas Tacos is a cash-only restaurant, so make sure you snag a couple bucks before you walk out the door. If you forget, no worries. There's an ATM in the main restaurant.
The tamales aren't the only authentic dish on the menu. It's a mere $5 for the chicken tortilla soup, which is made up of a thick slab of avocado swimming in a rich broth filled with chicken and crunchy tortilla strips. Mexican street corn, "elote," is also a cheesy indulgence available for purchase.
It's hard to choose a favorite, so buying one of everything might just work out. Be ready for a line, though! The secret of Mas Tacos is out, and there's normally a line out the door.
