7 Legendary Family-Owned Restaurants In Nashville You Have To Try
There’s just something about a family-owned restaurant that really makes us happy. There’s so much to respect of a place built strong by multiple generations. Here in Nashville, we have seven pretty amazing restaurants that have been culled from the Tennessee soil, and we’re pretty proud of them. Curious? We’ll introduce you!

Known as the oldest restaurants in ALL of Tennessee, Varallo's is also owned by some of the kindest Nashville folk you'll ever meet. You'll want to head here if you're craving a hefty bowl of chili, and don't mind parking in downtown. (239 4th Ave N)

This family-owned pizzeria was founded by a couple of Nashville transplants, having originally hailed from the great state of New York. Thankfully, this family makes a killer pizza pie and brought it straight down to us folks in the south. (897 Elm Hill Pike)

Open since the late 1930s, Elliston Place Soda Shop will send you straight back in time. The quirky atmosphere is off-set by their fabulous diner eats, great if you're more worried about remembering the good ole days than counting calories. Can we recommend their milkshakes...? (2111 Elliston Place)

Head on over to Jay's if you're looking for a delicious meal that will stick to your ribs. Their cobbler is off the charts good, and this family-owned spot offers up service like you've never experienced before. We're big fans - two thumbs up! (3037 Dickerson Pike)

Arnold's perhaps serves up the most well-known meat & three in the city, making this family-owned institution a place of local and tourist aplomb. The cafeteria-style design and down home cooking is great no matter if you've been born and raised in the south or are learning about a different (better) state's cuisine. (605 8th Ave S)

Another cafeteria-style restaurant, Swett's is a great decision if you're on the west side of town. Their fried chicken is one of our Nashville favorites, and their cornbread is simply divine. (2725 Clifton Avenue)

Perhaps one of the best known and most locally frequented hot chicken shops in Nashville, Prince's has gained a cult-like following. The no-frills storefront hides a killer menu and folks that are so kind you'll want to come back for more. You're doing good, fam. (123 Ewing Drive)
