Pizza is the kind of meal that transcends the seasons. It’s perfect for a summertime picnic, a winter meal by the fire, or even a rainy springtime reprieve. The city of Nashville boasts quite a few fantastic eateries, some better than others, but we’re completely in love with the pizza AND pasta offered at this east Nashville favorite. Sure, you can head to Domino’s or Papa John’s if you’re looking for subpar pizza. But if you’re looking for the best?
Italia Pizza & Pasta is a local legend to East Nashvillians, a spot that not only boasts a family-friendly atmosphere but a fantastic and filling menu to boot.
The business operates under an environmentally friendly adage, offering vegan and gluten-free menu options alongside their average pizza and pasta fare. This kind of attention-to-detail is what separates this gorgeous and homey space from the average "pizza parlor" of sorts.
Warm colors and a friendly dining room design only serves to heighten the experience of this rustic restaurant. It feels as if you've stepped backward in time, crossed the Atlantic and found yourself in the Italian countryside.
Ah, now for the star of the show: the PIZZA. You can choose to make your own calzone, pizza or stromboli, but we're fans of the Drag-It Through the Garden pizza, a pie that boasts an explosion of garden fresh veggies.
We're just going to give you an up close and personal look at these fantastic pizzas. The crusts are perfectly charred yet chewy, ooey gooey melted cheese has that just-from-the-oven cheese pull effect.
If you're looking to stay a bit healthier, order one of Italia's freshly prepared salads! You can also get whole wheat or gluten-free pizza crust... in defense of pizza, of course.
There's nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned sandwich, either! There are heaps of pasta dishes, salads, and Mediterranean fare (yes! even falafel!) on the menu as well. Italia thinks everything through, offering a delicious meal perfect for even the pickiest palate.
You can indulge in a pizza pie of your own by heading over to 1600 Woodland St., from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. every day but Sunday when hours are from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Happy dining!
If you’re looking to explore Nashville’s culinary scene, you should check out this new and wildly flavorful restaurant just down the street. It deserves to be added to that dining bucket list, too! After Italia, of course. Always after pizza.
