Nashville tends to be a city unto itself, tucked away high and dry on the Cumberland Plateau in the meaty middle of the state. If you’re looking for incredible hikes and waterfalls, you’ll want to drive roughly an hour outside of the city, like to Fall Creek Falls State Park. It’s a local favorite! Whether you’re looking to wander the beauty myriad of hiking trails or perhaps hike to the park’s neat swinging bridge, it’s up to you. Get out of the city, Nashville, and fall in love with someplace new.
Fall Creek Falls State Park is the most visited state park in Tennessee, boasting all sorts of incredible natural views featuring waterfalls, steep gorges cut straight out of the plateau and peaceful, gurgling creeks.
Fall Creek Falls itself is the highest freefall waterfall this side of the Mississippi River, at 256 feet high. The waterfall plummets into a plunge pool at its base.
The entire park is beautiful, and folks tend to edge towards Piney Falls in search of the famed swinging bridge in the park. The entire park is lush, clean and well-kempt, making it easy to pop from hiking trail to trail in search of scenic views.
The suspension bridge itself stretches across a small gorge close to the overlook for Piney Falls. It's almost unbelievable, a swinging bridge tucked away in the Tennessee wilderness.
It remains one of the most photographed spots in the park, other than the waterfalls, of course! The hike to the swinging bridge is much easier than most, and you'll want to follow the Piney Falls Side Trails. The bridge itself stretches over Piney Creek, and can be reached by a steep downhill trek from the Piney Falls Overlook.
Would you dare wander across the bridge? Is it pretty to look at, but too nerve wracking to cross? C'mon, adventurers! This safe and beautiful bridge offers up some of the most intense experiences in the park...
