Chicken and waffles have long been a classic favorite here in the United States. You can find eateries that focus on this decadent meal from the west coast to the east coast to the south, which means its a fan favorite no matter where you’re at. There are all sorts of theories about where chicken and waffles made their start originally, with some folks claiming it began in the heart of the American south, others who claim it’s the Harlem neighborhood of New York City or the Pennsylvania Dutch. No matter where it began, chicken and waffles have made their way to Nashville with a bit of a spin.
Coneheads recently opened their doors in East Nashville, and the response from the public has been incredible. This tiny storefront, located just off of Dickerson Pike, has put a solid spin on a classic favorite.
The communal picnic tables encourage eating in a group, and the art that lines the exterior of the space is truly revelatory. It's a colorful experience for the eyes and the mouth!
Can't decide? no worries! The Coneheads menu follows a make-your-own format, so you'll choose from three options for your meal. First, you'll choose your filling: fried chicken or fried cauliflower, folks?
Then, the sides. YUM. You can indulge in fries, coleslaw, mac & cheese, fried cauliflower, or the self-titled, "best damn grits." You can also choose to add your sides to the top of your fried cone if you'd rather take a big bite of everything good.
Will you be joining? Coneheads is the only restaurant in Nashville that specializes in fried chicken cones, making it a must-visit. While the soft opening is in-progress, hours run from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. every day but Monday. Official hours are still in the process of being solidified.
